P.S. the photo of the MkV would have been taken in time for Graham to compile his issue, send to the printers, get printed and distributed. The photo could easily be a month old. That is the optimist in me coming out.

Radialicious,
I must have been just behind you on the way into Wanaka that morning, as we'd just driven into the carpark in the Red Checkers support van when it took off.

My girlfriend at the time thought my interest in airshows was verging on Autistic and as a result she was lucky we were there as late as 7.30am.
It still don't know what she meant because I am not the least bit autistic. I can't draw or paint for s#*t.
Dave, we followed Inky Tulloch in his race truck that morning. I think he made an early trip too as I'm not sure if it was road legal. We were in a 6cyl Commodore and we couldn't keep up with his acceleration. He was in some race later that day and the truck was incredible. It had a turbo the size of a beer keg.

Warren Denholm does all the hard work with the photos and text and then emails it to me. I just process it all through Dreamweaver, Photoshop and JAlbum using some macros and templates I set up for the monthly reports. Whole lot (Mossie, Spit and P-40) takes less than 2 hours do normally. That 2 reports came through in such rapid succession would indicate a bit of a catch up by Warren. Speaking of catching up, coming soon - some magnificent photos by Gavin to be added to the NZ Warbirds site . Cheers, Stu.

So, any further news on a first flight date? I know that now outside of Classic Wings or heading Stateside I've little chance of seeing her, but I'm still keen to know.

Welcome to the forum Zac.
I guess with the summer and the airshow season over, there won't be much holding it here before departing our shores now once it is ready.
I would very much like to go up to Ardmore and film the first flight if I can get some advanced notice of when it will occur. Or at least some of the test flying. But I guess these things are never easy to predict and also there is commercial sensitivity involved in restoring of warbirds so we may not find out anything till it's too late.

Thanks for the welcome Dave! I've been hunting for a forum like this for years, fantastic to find it at last!
I was very disappointed when it was announced BL628 wouldn't make Omaka, but I wasn't really surprised as I'd seen the progress reports and been rather skeptical. However, I don't mind surviving on a pic and write-up in CW come the first post-restoration flight....higher n my list of priorities would have to be the Mosquito. Can't wait!

Thanks Stu Any Mossie update in the near future? Cheers Anthony Sorry Anthony, I'm not sure at this stage. Basically, Warren Denholm emails the updates to me whenever he can and I process them and get them up on the website as soon as I can. To be perfectly honest, the Avspecs site is the only one I seem to have time to do at the moment - mainly because I have a template for the updates that speeds up the process. I've been kind of caught out - my fault entirely - in that the practical part of my flying has overtaken the theory part and, with my solo cross country not too far off now, I'm spending as much time as possible frantically studying for (and sitting) exams. As a result, much website work has been postponed - but not forgotten. For the record, once the remaining exams are out of the way I plan to complete the Warbird Dakota website revamp (hope to add a bit of video to it as well this time) and update the NZ Warbirds site. Cheers, Stu.

Stu, thanks for the work that you and Warren do on the site. Very few restoration companies are so open about their progress, and it's a real credit to AvSpecs to allow the interested enthusiasts follow the progress of their various restorations. We appreciate that life can delay such updates, and we'll happily wait till the next one comes along.
Good luck ith the cross-country.

Off to Hamilton and Tauranga by any chance Stu? Good luck with the exams, which ones do you have left to complete?

Off to Hamilton and Tauranga by any chance Stu? Good luck with the exams, which ones do you have left to complete? Thanks guys, still got a few hours, and exams, to go before they let me loose outside of North Shore airspace. Passed FRTO and Human Factors, Meteorology up next. As for the flying hours - I've got just over 1 hour left of instrument flying (full and basic panel) then, from memory, low flying and map reading. At the moment I've cut back my flying from 2 -3 times a week to once a week so I don't get to the cross country before all the paperwork is done. Cheers, Stu. P.S. Hamilton as a destination I hope, it was the airfield I flew from way back a quarter of a century ago when I first had a go at this ppl business (jeez .. makes me sound like an old fart) and the Waikato is still the ancestral Russell home - I think there were Russells in Cambridge since before it was a town ;D
