I have had a hankering to get down to Christchurch for quite a while and I want to visit there again for several reasons, but one main reason is I really want to hold a Forum Meet there with hopefully some guest speakers, perhaps some film screenings, a chance to meet veterans and aviation personalities, etc., and of course the good old mix and mingle.
I have been keeping an eye on Grabaseat for cheap flights from Hamilton to Christchurch and back - and the good news is today my number came up. With some strong encouragement from Bruce that has helped me to decide to take the plunge, I just booked tickets down to Christchurch, heading down on the 27th of October and returning to Hamilton on the 31st Oct.
This means we can have a Forum Meet on Sunday 30th of October. So the date is set, I now need to sort out the venue and activities, so will get to work.
I hope all the Cantabrians will rally behind this and put your hands up to come along. Who's keen? And who has ideas? Suggestions? Anyone?

Maybe see if the Harvard Lounge would be keen to host? Maybe we can get Don to talk Skyhawks! :-)

I have approached Wigram, awaiting response. If that's a no go, we'll have a rethink. I think all the other old haunts I remember well in Christchurch are no longer available these days.

You want to run a 'function' at the Ashburton Aviation Museum? Tell me more.
You could use the smoko hut for 20-30 or so, the 'round hangar' for 100 or more or we could drag a few aircraft outdoors for a full on ball like the breast cancer folks had a couple of weeks ago in the big hangar.

Hi John, well that is quite a possibility, I have already approached Wigram about maybe holding the event there, but if that comes to nothing then Ashburton sounds very good. I'd love to visit Ashburton Aviation Museum and it actually sounds like a great idea. Are other Chch members keen on his if it comes to pass?
