So that must be book number three in the series.
I suppose Whenuapai, Ohakea and Woodbourne must be coming up sometime in the future, eh?
Update: I just pre-ordered a copy of RNZAF Station Laucala Bay from Fishpond.

One would hope so, along with Ohakea.

I seem to recall when I interviewed Bee about this book that she had no plans for future volumes at that stage. Great to see this one is out now. I'll have to add that to my birthday list.

Bought a copy today. The manager of the shop had only ordered a couple and they were both gone within an hour.
Official launch day is tomorrow I believe, and the book looks to be a real beauty.

I've got my copy.
Just as I got home from work about 30 minutes ago, the courier pulled up behind me and delivered my copy of the book.
I've had a cursory look through it and the book is fantastic.

I see Kiwithrottlejockey received his copy on 27Feb., so just curious to know if other who ordered through Fishpond have also have had a copy delivered. I ordered early Feb. was informed delivery would be from 27Feb.. When I checked Fishpond by email as to delivery I received 2 emails in reply. First stated the book had not yet been published and therefore not deliverable. The second stated the book was being sourced from overseas and would not be available for some time yet. This is my first dealing with Fishpond, it will also be my last. What sort of outfit or the staff is this that do not know what they are selling. I will probably now cancel the order and go without, what I never had I will never miss. At my age and state of health I can go without. I already have Hobsonville and intended to complement it with this latest book. Being a flying boat fan from way back, was a good idea at the time, but it seems dealing with idiot online sellers is not for me.

Not sure why they are claiming it is being sourced from overseas when the book was published in New Zealand.

Yes, I know that Dave. I already mentioned that to Fishpond when I replied to their email. I thought I would see if anyone else has had better luck than me before I decide to cancel. Pity it cannot be bought direct from the author.

As I said on the other Laucala Bay thread, this is the response from Fishpond:
Fishpond now tell that "We appear to be having problems sourcing this item due to supplier stock information being incorrect." And they cannot guarantee that they will be able to supply this book in the future. Thanks Fishpond - I ordered this book in October last year when it was first announced.
Off to Whitcoulls now.
Have cancelled the order and requested a refund.

I have consulted Bee about this Fishpond situation. Here is her response:
"This is very odd indeed. All copies arrived in New Zealand in January.
I think that the problem is that only about 500 were done for the book trade - the rest were bought by the RNZAF.
Hopefully by next week they will be available from the Air Force Museum and also from the 5 Squadron Association via Gordon Ragg. Also from the Air Force Association via Mary Barnes in Blenheim. We have been working on this today.
I appreciate that this is most frustrating for those who want the book.
In the meantime the best places to purchase it are bookstores. I know that both Unity and Whitcoulls have it - and maybe even available online.
I suggest that people ring around local bookshops if they want the book this week."

I guess that means that Fishpond only got a limited number and dished them out until they ran out. Unfortunately for me, even though I ordered the book last October, latest orders got first pick.

I ordered my copy from Fishpond on 4th September last year (shortly after I became aware of the book in this thread), so perhaps it was first in, first served until they ran out?

I saw the book in a local bookshop the other day. I picked it up thumbed backwards as you do and a caption beamed out at me. The picture was of a Union Steam Island trader and the caption, "Tofua or Matua." It could have been the other way round. These two ships are completely different and a quick google would have identified the ship. I put the book back on the shelf thinking if the other captions were riddled with mistakes.

The day after the courier delivered my copy of the book, I saw a stack of them on the “new releases” table at Paper Plus in Masterton. However, they were all gone a couple of days later, so I guess they sold out really quickly.

delticman, Don't be too hasty and dismiss a book based purely on one faulty caption! I was involved in the book as a checker, but was not asked to check captions (which is quite a common thing in this industry for some reason!) However there are many great pictures, some published for the first time, and then there is a hell of a lot of text to read too! And thanks for pointing out the ship recognition problem (which is self-evident anyway - I will check up and correct my copy. David D

In case anybody is curious as to the identity of the ship mentioned in the posts of 9th March, and cannot be bothered Googeling, subject ship is the Tofua (that is, the second one launched in 1951). Delticman is right, the two ships mentioned are completely different. David D

To add to the stories about shortages of this book, I can admit to having too many copies!
As I departed for Ohakea and the 80th show, Meredith said "Don't forget to buy something down there for me to give you for your upcoming birthday".
Ever obedient, I called into the Air Force Museum tent, saw the book, liked it and bought a copy. Handed it over to her on my return to Auckland for later gifting.
The following weekend we had a family get together, as we have three birthdays just a few days apart - mine, hers and #2 stepsons. At this evening, #1 stepson and his family handed out their presents to the three of us. Mine was - you guessed it - the Laucala Bay book. We acted superbly well, gave no indication of any conflict. and were suitably grateful.
The next day we pondered the problem. There is a bookshop in Milford that we all know well, and we figured that they may have got the book from there. Calling in, the shopkeeper confirmed that he had sold it to #1 stepson's wife, and yes he would be happy for us to exchange it for something else.
So as well as just one copy of the Dawson book I now have Rescue Pilot by John Funnell. A excellent book, great reading.
Alls well that ends well (to quote the Baird).
