Whilst looking through an old photo album belonging to the late RNZAF pilot Graeme Ronayne, I found some interesting bits and pieces. This is one of them, which I think may be from RSA Review

Smoke-and-mirrors. The Harvard presented to the Aussies was NZ1030, presented to RAAF Museum at Point Cook 12Dec88, displayed as NZ947 The real NZ947 was sold to Bennetts in 1958.

Before it was restored and presented to the RAAF (circa 1987 when I was on 2 Sqn) the Harvard in question used to live in No 1 hangar at Ohakea (42 and 2 Sqn's old hangar - now PTS's). Also sharing the hangar was Rex Brearaton's (spelling?) airworthy Harvard. Rex was an air traffic controller at Ohakea (still is I think?) There was also a complete Merlin engine in its packing case sitting beside the Harvard - not sure what happened to it, but I hope it went to the Ohakea Museum...
The Maintenance Flight Commander at 2 Sqn at the time was Mike Nichols who was restoring a Harvard - the fuselage was in the AMS hangar.

If the Merlin was new and in its packing case, I hope it didn't go to the museum. I hope it went to an airworthy project and will keep something flying. Only old clapped out engines should be in museums imho

Peter, can I check, when you wrote NZ1030, did you mean NZ1034? Or did two harvards go to Point Cook? NZ1034 was swapped to the RAAF Musuem for the GAF Canberra B.20 at Wigram.

Quite right Dave - it was NZ1034. NZ1030 cr Rongotai 19Oct43. That's how mistakes can enter into the records, sorry.
