I think most of the guys that did time in the mob can recall their various promotions, some just came along based on time but others may have involved a posting or even more effort. Invariably there would be courses and exams to be endured in order to achieve that next step. I see then mention of this chap, he was CFR and has progressed from AC through to F/S and then F/L to Air Commodore. www.airforce.mil.nz/about-us/who-we-are/key-personnel/dcaf.htmThat is a pretty good effort and may be some kind of record in the more modern era. Most of the recent Air Rank Officers would have started off as Officer Cadet or Pilot Officer. Good effort Mark...

And a damn nice guy too. He worked for me at one stage - just trying to work out where and when.
He has done very well for himself and been an asset for Defence.

The guys in Wellington must be pretty quiet these days as it must be a drag from the morning paper through to morning tea. I am sure Mark will be reading this soon enough so he can ponder this one.

He worked for me on the Wigram Flight line as a mech. We were out doing a compas swing in an Iroquios one afternoon. It was all done and we were ready to go back to the line when the pilot asked me if I wanted to taxi it back. The poor mech didn't know what to do, jump, out then or just put up with this untrained pilot. He sat back but not relaxed as I taxied the Iroquios back to the line. It was an interesting experience for both of us. Did I want to land it, No.
