Hi guys, not sure if its been covered recently here (did look briefly without success) but I'm looking at buying some replica medals for my son to wear at Anzac parades etc on his RAAF cadets uniform.
Can anyone recommend a fairly reputable dealer in Australia, or NZ for these? I've had a look at ebay but not really sure whats what.
Looking for DFC, 39-45 star, Bomber Command medal, France Germany Star, and a couple of other common ones Dad got for ticking the boxes in England at the time :-)
Thanks in advance....

Hi. For most of the common WW2 issued stuff I personally just buy genuine unnamed medals as they were cheap enough and only a tiny bit more than copies. As for buying something like a DFC then obviously a copy medal is the only option given their value. It's probably the best bet to get the person who you will use to mount them for wear, to source the medals all for you so they are happy to work with them. Some copies are junk. I have had most of my personal collection work done by a company/person here in New Zealand. I'm happy to provide their details in a private message should anyone require? It would save you a lot of hassle to get a complete all up quote for the copy group you require. Cheers

nzmilitarymedals.com/replicas.htmlWhen I joined the RNZAF I told the Psychs that I was signing on to go into the draw for a VC. If I had realised you could buy them so cheaply I wouldn't have bothered.

Quite right, this medal for my participation in the Gallipoli campaign goes well with my award for bravery over Germany in WW2. Clashes a bit with my George Cross for killing so many VC in Korea, but heyyyy nobody's gonna check are they? Sadly yes there are these sorts of twits around, but they seem to get recognised so quickly now and publicly humiliated.

They did a great job of the mounting, but they were expensive. How expensive? I've got a Gt Uncle's medals to mount - at least one will need a new ribbon, MM, 1914 Star and Victory & War medals.

Hi, I've used Heritage Medals in WA to do my great-grand father's medals, consisted of three WW1 medals court remounting, including light clean and re-riband, plus supply a replacement for a lost/stolen Boer War medal plus clasps, all done including certified/signed for mail in return, for under AUS$150. They even returned the original medal ribands. Did an excellent job on the cleaning and mounting, better than I've seen from some others out there. That was about 3 years ago. I did some online comparison and asking around at the time and their reputation was pretty good. Their website gives approximate prices and details for services they offer and also prices for replacement/replica medals. Like most things, you get what you pay for.
