Fantastic news and awesome photos guys! Andy emailed me some photos yesterday but they are pretty similar to these so I wont bother putting them up.
The work Andy and the guys have done on this rebuild is truly amazing! I am sure those guys here who have seen her will testify to that. The cockpit is stunning and completely original(even the gunsight works). The modern radio's are virtually impossible to find. The gun ports and signal flare tube in the rear fuse actually has a doped over patch. The attention to detail is amazing.
Well done Avspecs!

Simply brilliant! Great photos guys, thanks for bringing this to those of us who cant be there. And a great job for the restoration team too, albeit a bit late but the result is well and truly worth it.

Stunning photos! How lucky you were, and you're right that Merlin sound, one of the greatest noises ever.
She looks absolutely beautiful!

FANTASTIC! I absolutely LOVE the Mark Fives, and to see BL628 take to the skies at last is awesome....and about time we had a Vb fly here. It's a real shame we probably won't see her fly at any events in NZ before she departs, but at least we have these shots.
Congrats to Wal and the AvSpecs team on what looks like one of the nicest Spitfire restorations ever....and to Keith on the test flying. BEAUTIFUL!!!
Anyone else noticed this is the first restoration TO AIRWORTHY of a Spit in NZ yet completed?

Thanks. I like this one even though it is a long way off. (Thank goodness for 10 megapixel cameras!) Part of the first flight shots I took. Talking about spies or should I say forum members were caught here in this shot. Mike, Dave and Kerry? Andy engine testing. Colin

Does anyone know how long she will be staying in NZ for? Don't suppose there is any chance they could be so puzzled by that undercarriage lock that it MIGHT take until next Easter to fix it......!!

No, I think it will be going within weeks to the USA Mike, sadly.
I suggested to Andy that perhaps if, in the dead of night, they nicked the plastic Spitfire from the park in Hamilton and put that in the crate instead, we might be able to keep it. Sadly he didn't agree.

Those undercarriage problems must take a month or so to fix, and require lots of test flights, including off a grass airstrip such as Raglan (about 10th November...)

Did he happen to get a bit wayward taxiing in the first picture? The Mark V looks quite different to the XVI we're used to, slightly shorter nose I think.
