I am told that during the 1960-1961 Antarctic 'season' at least one AN-12 ('Cub') visited Christchurch, an uusual event as they tended to go south from Australia. As I can't seem to find any information about this on this site, can anyone provide details?
Thanks.

Tony Phillips' book has the photo in question on page 43, show one An-12 and one Il-18, not two of former. Date they were at Harewood was January 1962, although they had arrived in NZ the previous month. So far as I know, these were the first-ever Soviet aircraft to have ever visited New Zealand. Two seasons later (Nov 63 - Jan 64) , two Il-18s were again at Harwood for Antarctic duties, one of these being the same one that visited on the first Soviet visit. David D
