Been away with work for 2 weeks and I missed the release so thanks for posting! Looks amazing. There hasn't been a film where I have actually wanted to go to the movies for a long time now so I think this is the one!

In my opinion, historical accuracy has to eventually give way to film making reality. In the case of Dunkirk, it's not like Chris Nolan can find airworthy examples of period correct Hurricane 1, Boulton Paul Defiant and Fairey Battle sitting around waiting to appear in the movie. I applaud his resistance to going down the easy route of CGI and using real tanks, vehicles, ships and aircraft. While I know I'm only one of a minority who can spot the difference between a Bf-109 and a Buchón I am willing to let it slide this time because the movie will be a good watch regardless. Really looking forward to it now!

...but I might actually go along and watch it when it gets here. What? Are you becoming jaded with historical aviation Dave? Is it all becoming just a bit yeah, nah??

Not at all. I am jaded with the movie industry's output so usually never bother with the cinematic release of films any more, but this one looks like it will be fantastic so I plan to actually get my butt along to a cinema rather than wait for a DVD release.

I have just got home. I won't wait for tomorrow to post my review. Being someone who likes to deconstruct films, I put that part of my personality to one side and just enjoyed it for what it is. A true masterpiece of film making from one of the best directors of our time (definitely worthy of an Academy Award nomination). I didn't even care about the inconsistencies I spoke about earlier, the film is beautifully shot and the aerial scenes are simply breathtaking. Something CG would have stuck out like a sore thumb and any CGI that is in there was very well disguised. Shooting in 65mm IMax gives the film a really detailed look that brings out the little things that add authenticity rather than detract from it. I really enjoyed Hans Zimmer's score, but it's my subjective opinion. As far as the acting goes the best performances came from the youngsters, upstaging the veteran actors all over the place possibly with the sole exception of Mark Rylance, who was absolutely brilliant. That's about as far as I can go without posting spoilers. Dave, go and see it on the big screen. The visuals will lose far too much impact on DVD. In fact, I am thinking about a trip to Auckland to see it on IMax as Chris Nolan intended. There's a potential forum meet right there.

The aerial sequences are generally excellent, good to see a couple of Mk 1 Spits used , and the integration of the He111 model was very well done, would have been nice to have some Ju88 in there as well, too bad they didn't use a DB engined Me109 instead of the Buchonl

Dave, Go and see it. Did so on Saturday. Loved how they did the Heinkel and also the three Mk.I Spits. Also like the fact that it was done with (to me) no-names as it was refreshing to see 'normal' people in those roles. Now for a BoB remake or viewed from a different angle. Or, BoF leading into BoB.... plenty of scope there. with Hawk 75s, Hurricanes, the Morane and the (I think) airworthy Potez replica flying in the USA

Also like the fact that it was done with (to me) no-names as it was refreshing to see 'normal' people in those roles. I was kind of hoping that a certain young and very famous English pop star (ask a millennial who he is) acting in his first movie got to die onscreen but regretfully that didn't happen. I have to concede that he turned in a credible performance though.
