I can recall flying into one of the west coast airfields in an air force F-27 about 1986 on a medivac for a baby. Smart navigator asked for a fuel load Paraparaumu - West Coast - Dunedin - Paraparaumu, but forgot we were limited on take off wieight, so we had to circle off the coats for 30 minutes with flaps and undercarriage down to burn fuel. Got to Dunedin and had to refuel to get home, then discovered we would not reach Paraparaumu before curfew, so had to stay at Wigram overnight. We were on a Wise Owl at the time, and the Wigram aircraft had damaged propellor blades from a gravel strip landing.

That works. Must have been reasonably early in their service life, judging by the lack of unit badge.
love the shorts. Looked a bit like Radar O'Reilly in one part.

I was trying to think of the year. W/C Kevin Jones is there and I think he came back from Malaysia in 1983. His daughter, Collette, was driving the ambulance that took me off to hospital last month and was telling me about their return to NZ.
The other pilots are Flt Lt Tony Kenworthy and F/O Mark Owen. The AFPRO is S/L Bob Reynolds and the pax are the local council, about to depart on a jolly.
It is going to be either 1983 or 1984. I have a diary here from that era so may even get the exact date.

I see the larger fin flash was added to '83' on 29th Oct 83 but even more tellingly I went to 'O's farewell function on 17th June 1983.
I am not a farmer but I guess the likely date would be late summer in early 1983. Kevin Slee may have been flash in his walk shorts but not winter brave..
