I have just returned from a beer at the local RSA and we were talking about the wartime history of one of the local identities.
Dave was an engineer postwar and ran a Westport service station. Any history has been lost within the family but I know some of the relatives would be keen to chase any leads. At this stage they don't even have a service number.
It would appear he was born in Denniston about 1919/20 and did wartime service with the RNZAF in the Pacific. The rank may have been Warrant Officer so I guess it is possible he may have been aircrew.
The christian names may have been reversed but we always knew him as Dave Caldwell.
There is a grave at Renwick which may well be his. David Adam Caldwell 09-Jan-85 67 1918

Should be, with the death info, enough to go on for a request to Personnel Records, NZDF for his service record. Errol
