Great picture Don . Bunny Burrows (Nav for F/O Kassler ) logbook shows a lot of railway ops for March and April 45 flying out of Rosieries . Mostly evening/ night raids unfortunately , nothing linking to the daylight of the picture above.

I wonder how many ops they had a rearward facing camera on an aircraft to take photos like this.

Probably a low level strike recording camera - I would think the only effective way to record damage inflicted. Principle was in use on P3 and A4.

I have seen this photo before many many years (in the 80's)ago. I was told by an ex 487 Nav (name escapes me now) flying in the plane the pic was taken from that, that was Des in HR339 behind them.
No way of ever really confirming though I guess.....

Using the background photo above I have the following compassion together for a painting. There is quite a bit of artistic licence is being used. I then drew this to canvas ready for painting.

Looks like typical kiwi stuff - turn up create chaos then disappear, leaving a mess behind.

In the original photo it appears that the bomb bay doors are still open in the Mossie at left. Something to also include in your paintin? Errol

This artwork is going to be really awesome Don. I already love the pencil sketch. I hope we can find the raid date and place.

Correct David, which was pretty usual for that late wartime period with 487, they seemed to have lost them at the very end of the war. Also black spinners helps with the timing.
I will have a dig around on the weekend and see if I took any notes after that conversation and see if I can find any more. Anthony

David the wing bomb racks will be in the final painting also the bomb doors will be in the process of closing on the aircraft.Think this will be a long job with the painting of this one.Don
