I had the privilege and pleasure of attending the weekend celebration of 100 years of active aviating by four generations of Brodies in Canterbury. I don't know of any other NZ families that could make a similar claim! I expect that there will be other records and acknowledgments of this event (judging by the number of cameras) and likely better images than my beat-up phone could capture, but I'd like to add my modest contribution to the record of this significant milestone. Also, check out 7 Sharp on TV One this Tuesday...? Congratulations Russell and Ross for keeping the spirit of aviation adventure by the good-keen-kiwi alive - may there be many more milestones to come! The weekend fly-in was hampered by very strong NW winds but it did not snuff out the enthusiasm or dedication of those who took on the challenge by air (some 17 aircraft on the field on Friday/Saturday) or who chose to drive instead. Friday evening welcomed attendees to the Geraldine cinema (a classic of bygone years) for a one-off showing of the classic 1968 movie The Battle of Britain on the big screen! Complete with original reel footage and God save the Queen, and intermission! Some forumites showed their age (and acted considerably less than that) by prompting the script at regular intervals... The following pictures are taken during the movie from my seat (apologies for the poor quality - but you get the idea...) NOT The Muppet Show, but the similarities are there, in more ways than one... Johnny kept on asking when the Austers were going to arrive to save the day......really annoying having to explain what the aircraft were on the screen. Tch tch do ya research Piper boy! 😊

Thanks for the photos John. Interesting that they found an old reel film of the movie, I thought it would have been projected from DVD. That would have added to the classic feel of the place.

Indeed, scratchy and grainy with vertical lines as the film began to roll off the reel - brought back child-hood memories of going to the flicks to see it in the '70s

A good clip there from 7Sharp. Is that a Devon cockpit I see?
I can't see Bruce's photos either for some reason, which is a shame, just the dreaded "PB give us money" picture.

Yep, same here - still... Can't believe they interviewed me for 5 minutes and they cut the whole lot! I guess that lends weight to the theory that nothing I say is worth listening to...

Michael Holland and his cameraman spent most of the day on site getting the feel for the place and the family. I had a chat to Mike and he seems to be quite an aviation enthusiast, He has done a very nice job of telling the story without over dramatising things. a good report.

He did a good job covering the Mosquito projects in the past too.

I am puzzled as to why some are not seeing Bruce's photos, have you not downloaded and installed the browser extension that allows you to see Photobucket? is it just these particular photos you cannot see?

I haven't downloaded any browser extension, yet I can still see those and all Photobucket-hosted images at this group.
