Hi all A photo of the ATR my wife flew down to Christchurch from Hamilton on 15 July 2017. This is also a test to see if I can get a photo to the form via Flickr. 20170715_074735 by Marcus Duvenhage, on Flickr

Loading passengers by cattle ramps is a bit over the top?

It's the Waikato Ray, dairy country.
Nice photo Marcus!

I suppose it's easier to get the likes of a wheelchair up the ramp. isc

Yes, they use that style of ramp when there is a passenger with mobility issues onboard.

Yes, they use that style of ramp when there is a passenger with mobility issues onboard. They use them for most flights these days at least in Palmy

Yes I have seen them used/used them at other airports too. They are a lot better than the steep steps option, especially for my dodgy hip.

Chatting with a ground crew member at Auckland recently, those ramps are now in full use for the ATR and Q300 at all airports

They use those ramps at Gisborne Airport too.

I've not seen ramps like those used in the operations of ATR's and Dash 8s in other countries. I guess they are used to give Kiwis the comforting feeling of being herded like sheep.

Great photo of the ATR, early morning ground mist in the background. And yes the ramps are better than the steps, especially for the older people. And yes, like the ATR the Q300's door is small too and I have to watch my head too.

Hi all I posted the ATR photo as basically a Flickr "photo posting test run". Surprisingly it has generated several interesting comments, something I wasn't expecting. While waiting for the ATR with my wife onboard to depart I took some video footage as well. The photos and video all taken with my cellphone so the quality is not all that good. My intention was not to share it in public as I thought there would be no interest in it. I was inside the terminal building next to the coffee shop/restaurant. I had people chatting loudly around me and the clanging from the coffee shop did nothing to help the sound capture. I opted for music as the ambient noise was way to distracting. As I was not intending to share the video outside my circle of family and friends I added an Afrikaans song to it. We still have friends and family in South Africa. If you can live with the song I hope you will find the short clip as interesting as the initial photo.

Hope no one from Air NZ management see's this, the guy is incorrectly de-icing the aircraft and is not in line with the airlines SOP's, suppose to be leading edge to training edge, and Hotel mode should be off.

The ramps are fine (if a little narrow.....) but I do wish they would sort out some of their ground crew who always seem surprised that a plane has actually turned up and seem to do everything else before bringing the bloody ramp over. On one flight I was on to Palmerston North last year the bags were on the carousel when we got into the terminal. Lets just say one of the guys was significantly more interested in doing his job than the other
