Its been over 5 years since my first flight in a Dc 3 and that was DAK too. It was a fathers day present from my children and some of them were fathers and came along too.
You can imagine my excitement at the prospect of two flights in one day on a Dc 3 and going to an airshow as well I couldn't wish for anymore than that? We met early at Ardmore and one other in the group Alex is a forum contributor so that helped break the ice. I must say though that the warbirds people are a very warm friendly bunch so the excitement was just all the more mounting as we went through the formalities and then made our way to the plane. The weather was great and the views from the big windows were fantastic. Couple of bumps here and there but nothing too alarming, well done to the crew. Some photos I took on the way.
Looking back at Ardmore.
Visit to the cockpit. On the left Captain Geoff Cooper and on the right First Officer Tim Dennis.
Gold mining in Waihi. This has special significance to me as my Grandfather worked in the original Martha mine a very long time ago.
A little aerodrome down there for Waihi Beach?
Looking out towards The Mount / Papamoa the "Gold Coast" of NZ?
Over the Golf course and in to land at Tauranga.
Our short term parking spot.
Taxing to the terminal and a better parking spot. ;D
A classic at any airshow.
Thanks to Dave and the truck loading up for our departure.
A last look and reminess of the days events.
Reminds me of WWII style load up with authentic truck and aircraft.
Last look at Tauranga from the air.
Waihi Beach
Gold mine tailings ponds?
Clevedon
Home at last.
A very enjoyable day with a great bunch of people. Cheaper than taking my car and a much shorter travel time. Come along and join up with Warbirds for an excellent time of your life.
I encourage any others on the trip to add their photos and comments to this thread.
See you by the Dak next time at an airshow?
Colin
