Back in the day I was doing a rating in DFV. I had done the training flights, the general handling and all that was left was the 'all-up weight' flight. I turned up for my 9 o'clock booking and it had just been pranged. The earlier booked flight had taken off into the rising winter's sun and clipped a runway marker box. I never saw the wreckage but I believe it pulled the leg back and whatever happens after that. About 4 hours in the logbook for nowt... I moved from New Plymouth to join the mob at Wigram. It was a 180hp Cardinal but felt very heavy in comparison to the 'M' and 'N' model 172's. Oh, and visibility over the very high panel was not so great for us shorties either.. *** EDIT *** It must have been this one, far from winter but I imagined it was a little later on. I never flew it again so it may have taken a while to repair. Yep, that will be the one, it was a Saturday morning job. aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=61357nzcivair.blogspot.co.nz/2015/09/rangitata-island-spring-fly-in.html

CAA REgister says DFV is owned by RN Lee, Queenstown, and Stuff.co.nz says it was owned by Richard Lee... so definitely DFV.

In happier times: Ardmore 11Feb2015Yes baronbeeza, ZK-DFV was with the New Plymouth AC from the end of 1971 until late 1985. I guess that's when you flew it.
