It has been a year since we held the Missing Wingman Trust dinner here in Cambridge with a number of WONZ Forum Members gathering for a lunch at the Five Stags and each contributing $20.00 towards the MWT. It was a really fun event, and recently someone asked me if the Trust is doing the dinners again this year.
Well I wasn't sure, I'd not seen anything. But on Thursday evening at the No. 3 Squadron event I attended I had the pleasure to finally meet Tim Costley, the No. 3 Squadron pilot who is one of the group that started ad run the MWT. He said that right now his work has been keeping him very busy so he's not had time to devote to organising any events for a bit. However he suggested that if we wanted to do another dinner or similar gathering to raise funds for the MWT, he'd be more than happy for us to go ahead.
So I am floating this here. Would anyone out there be keen to have another similar gathering like last year? Perhaps a lunch or a dinner at a local venue?
Or alternately would anyone like to suggest a different group activity we could organise for Forum members, where we can also raise some cash for the MWT? Fire away with ideas, or if you're keen on a lunch or dinner option, post your thoughts here.

Yeah always keen for a brunch, dinner, beers or two with a hat going around. I just miscued last year and picked the wrong day so missed it but still sent some funds through. Graeme

I may well be a starter. Cambridge would be a good venue for those living in Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel and Western Bay of Plenty areas. Seems like a good reason for forum members to catch up or meet up for the first time. Please post updates on this thread to build up the momentum, thanks.

Just been chatting with Doug Walters - one of the trustees. He liked the idea - should possibly give him a shout - he lives in Whangamata these days.

OK, I have been working behind the scenes and can now confirm some details. I got an email from Barry Lennox who you may recall was planning to give a talk at last year's Christchurch Forum Meet on the engineering behind the RNZAF/RNZN's Kaman Seasprites, but two days before the event he was forced to cancel following a death in his family. However it turns out he will actually be in Cambridge next month and he let me know he was happy to still give the planned talk if we were having an event. As it happens, we were planning an event about the very same time. So this will be a dinner and have a special guest speaker, Barry Lennox, afterwards. Due to the constraints of when Barry is in town though, we will be holding this on the evening of Tuesday the 10th of October 2017, start time is 6.00pm. Sadly he will not be around on the weekend and I know some of you coming from further afar will not find an evening event as suitable but I hope we can still get a good turnout because this is for a great cause, the RNZAF Missing Wingman Trust, and also we have the bonus of a great presentation by the ex-RNZAF Engineering Officer who developed the systems for our Seasprites. The venue will be upstairs in The Prince Albert restaurant and bar, which is accessible from both Victoria Street and Halleys Lane in Cambridge. Here is their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ThePrinceAlbertCambridge/And Trip Advisor on the P.A. www.tripadvisor.co.nz/Restaurant_Review-g635989-d724780-Reviews-Prince_Albert_Old_English_Pub-Cambridge_Waikato_Region_North_Island.htmlA bonus note, I spotted a poster saying on Tuesday nights they do a sirloin steak meal for just $15.00. So as with last year, we come along, buy our own meals, and each put a minimum of $20 into the pot for the Missing Wingman Trust. And it's a great chance to socialise with other aviation fans and forum members. With Barry giving the talk this will be a bit like a mini-forum meet. And we have the upstairs room to ourselves. IMPORTANT - Please advise me ASAP if you wish to come, the Prince Albert wish to know numbers of people coming. So email me now on dave_daasnz@hotmail.com

Yes it is, but unfortunately, because of my role, I can't avoid being there.

The complete silence on this is worrying. So far one person is coming, other than myself and Barry. Can nobody make it?

I have a court hearing on that afternoon, then depart for a conference in Napier the following day, so unfortunately the timing is just not possible for me.

Sorry Dave - only just logged on to WONZ, but yes the date is fine with me. Count on me - I like a good steak and a red wine or two... I can get a workmate to cover for me that evening!

I registered as "Interested" on the Facebook event, but unfortunately I find I'll be away in the South Island for the actual day. I'll make sure I arrange a donation to the trust even if I can't get to the dinner. Sorry.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Sadly this Tuesday evening event is a non-starter. Almost everyone who was originally keen for the weekend lunchtime meal cannot make it on the Tuesday evening. So I have contacted Barry to let him know that we have insufficient numbers and regrettably we'll have to cancel the evening.
I will revert back to Plan A and we'll look at a weekend lunchtime meal. Does lunch on Sunday the 8th of October still suit everyone?
Please let me know now if you're keen to come, and I will book with a local restaurant.
