Dave, These city or borough crests were only carried by aircraft at Wigram (Harvards and Devons), Whenuapai (Hastings, Bristols, DC-6s, and perhaps the odd Devon) and Blenheim (one or two Harvards) over the general period 1957 to about 1966 (or perhaps a little later). Don't think that any aircraft at Ohakea or Hobsonville, let alone Laucala Bay, ever carried them. There was a bit of a revival in 1980s/90s at Wigram, with crests appearing on the Friendships, not on the tail, but beside main entry door. Incidentally the Woodbourne Harvards, rather then having the simple crest of the Borough of Blenheim (I think it was a borough then) carried the full "coat of arms", and in an extra large size so as to impress. All comments welcome. David D

With the F-27 I thought it was just the one aircraft, NZ2781, that had the crest at the rear door. It was done about the same time as the fin flash was enlarged.
