Classic Flyers WONZ Forum Meet
Sunday 4th of March 2018
10.00am start
4.00pm approximate finish
The Boeing Room, Classic Flyers NZ Museum, Jean Batten Drive, Tauranga Airport, Mount Maunganui, Tauranga
I am very excited to announce the first WONZ Forum Meet of 2018 which will be held in The Boeing Room of the Classic Flyers NZ Museum at Tauranga Airport. It's high time we had a gathering at this fantastic venue.
This is early days as I post this, as we're more than five months out from the event, and we still have two other events before this one, but mark your calendars and start planning.
The event will have guest speakers, access to the museum, a light lunch will be provided in the ticket price and the museum's excellent cafe will be available for anyone who wishes to eat more. There is an amazing group of enthusiastic and knowledgeable folks at that museum and in Tauranga, including members of the Bay of Plenty Branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society, most of whom are members of this forum. So I am sure we will find some terrific speakers and get a really good turn out from locals and people travelling from further afield. I'll also try to get a few veterans along as usual. And we will likely have a raffle to raise money for the Grumman Avenger project.
So stay turned to this thread, actual confirmed details will be added here when they are locked into place.
Guest Speakers now include:
Andrew Gormlie – Classic Flyers CEO
Roger Dalziell – Postwar RNZAF Avenger pilot
Matt McLaughlin – Flying The Knife Edge author and PNG Bush Pilot
Bryan Cox - Regaining his pilot's licence at 93 years old
Arthur Gatland - RAF Hawker Hunter and Harrier pilot, glider pilot, and author
Des Underwood - Former RNZAF Engineering Officer
John Mathewson - Former RNZAF Skyhawk pilot and No. 2 Squadron RNZAF Commander
W/C Brett Marshall - Executive Officer of the Air Force Museum of New Zealand
Plus there will access to tour the restoration hangar to view the two Grumman Avengers, and also the Archives facility.
If you have ideas and suggestions, fire away. If you can confirm you're coming, post that here. If you need to carpool to and from, or find local accommodation, post here too and we'll see if other forum members can assist.
Tickets are now available from me by emailing me at dave_daasnz@hotmail.com and they cost $30.00 per person
Get your tickets now. I need to know numbers in advance for the caterers so please secure your ticket now by emailing me before the 25th of February.
