ZK-LFD, On lease to Thames Aero Club. Pity, they were doing a lot of trial flights in it over summer and had introduced lots of people to light aviation...

Very quick to blame a drone. Maybe it was simply the windscreen collapsed? No doubt we will find out in time.....

I am sure we will find out. It doesn't take too much effort to establish from the fragments what happened and how fast the airflow was etc.
Aren't journalists somewhere behind used car salesmen when it comes to trustworthiness. Here we have the efforts of two journalists and their versions of events.
I would have thought a drone strike would be similar to a bird strike though, how often have we had to duck down when you see a bird in your field of view ?

Versions of this video has been doing the rounds a lot lately:
Note that it all happened so quickly that you couldn't see anything hit the windscreen.... It just appeared to explode!
It wasn't until the footage was slowed down that you could see the bird.

Good footage but the close calls I have had were in something a little slower than a Piper Saratoga on autopilot. That is more a rear seat view also, I can recall getting close to a r/c model in the circuit at Hawera and could see it clearly. It was out to the side though and was never coming straight at me.
This latest drone strike one will be interesting either way. Either he had a mid-air with one or he didn't.
Isn't this the guy that had a collision with a random fist ?

I recall an episode many years back where the windscreen of a Cessna 180 caved in during flight injuring pilot and passengers. No evidence could be found to support a bird strike and I expect it was attributed to structural failure of the perspex.

As already said , time will tell , but hes very quick to blame a drone , when he admits that he never saw anything at all . For a drone to hit his windscreen with the sort of glancing blow that he describes , it would have to have been travelling very fast ( not likely if it was in the area to take pictures of the mine - which is stated as the reason for drones being in the area ) . As for people who call for tougher drone regulations - the regulations are already there , but regulations alone dont stop idiots !
If drones are in that area so much ( at least one a day is stated ) then why arent the regulations being policed ( unless of course they are flying within the regulations ) and why would you fly your aeroplane over there if that information is so widely known ?

There seems to be some sort of automatic reaction that if people are not complying with the current regulations or laws then we need to make those laws and regulations more stringent.
No, it doesn't make any sense to me either.

I am not sure I can read any further.......
And people pay to read this stuff ?
I am curious now, especially after seeing the pics. I will head over to PPrune to see what the guys there are making of this.

This is embarrassing. The guys there are thinking along similar lines.
The drone was not seen. There is no sign of the drone or any related damage to the aircraft. All we can see is that the Foxbat hit a tree and overturned on landing.
I am no fan of high flying drones but I think they are getting worldwide exposure unnecessarily here. I would have preferred for the cause to be confirmed before seeing headlines such as these.
It is a shame to see 'Drone brings down plane' and it has happened right here.
Am I correct in thinking that nothing of the drone has been found ?

Well at least, according to the Daily Mail, the plane was hurtling instead of the usual plummetting, so that's gotta be an improvement, eh?

Isn't this the guy that had a collision with a random fist ? It was a very deliberate fist... Bob Jones didn’t appreciate his fishing being interrupted.

Would have been safer if they'd tried filming him using a drone... Oh wait, they didn't "exist" then either
Baron, that news quote makes me ill. I KNOW I can't read further.
