from the Wairarapa Times-Age…Campervan lands in Henley Lake9:38AM — Wednesday, July 11, 2018The strange sight of a campervan in Henley Lake this morning. — Photograph: Jade Cvetkov.AUSTRALIAN holiday makers made a splash at Henley Lake last night. A father and four children, one aged just three years old, were rescued from a campervan which ended up stuck 25 metres into the lake in Masterton last night. The incident happened at around 8pm, when the family arrived to park up for the night after a day of touring around the region. A campervan with five passengers wound up in Henley Lake last night. — Photograph: Jade Cvetkov. The mother got out of the campervan to stretch her legs, and the father was about to do the same when the van, still in gear, lurched forward into the lake. Emergency services arrived shortly after, and a fireman waded into the lake to attach a rope to the van. The family were rescued unharmed using a waka ama vessel, and taken to Masterton Police Station to warm up, before accommodation was found for them for the night. times-age.co.nz/campervan-lands-in-henley-lake

That's what happens when an auto gearbox is left in drive, the vehicle wanders off on it's merry way. Bet she was squatting beside it too. While it was semi floating the back wheels would ''paddle'' it further out.

KTJ - can you explain to the WONZ readership why you are posting stories which bear little (if any) relevance to the subject of aviation? In particular I refer to your recent report of the 80 year old record held by a train and to the campervan in Henley Lake.

It was explained not long ago, this section is the general area where such non aviation subjects may be aired. You don't have to read it if you don't like it. isc

Anyway, I had to laugh at the reader comments posted in reply to the STUFF article yesterday.
Lots of swagman/billabong jokes taking the piss out of the situation.

Must have been a Queenslander, don't get much rain up there so they don't know what a lake is, some of them will also tell you they can walk/drive on water!

Rubbish! That's all it does in Queensland. More likely from the super dry southern states. Still too cold to go for a swim.
