In case just 2 A-400's are bought... sure there will be a second type added (C-295 or C-27J class). If the C-130J is the winner... then I am afraid it will be it.
Let's wait I expect some news soon.

Interesting thought. Could we get by without a Herc in the mix. Just two or three strategic lifters and a larger number of smaller tactical transports. It starts to make more sense if the tactical transport also has a maritime patrol version that could be used to supplement the small P-8 fleet. Too radical.

That depends on what you define as a strategic lifter, another commercial adapted aircraft such as the MRTT? I’d say no But from memory I think it was a Qantas that moved the 2/3 NZLAV to the sand pit, there always that option

Did anyone else hear a couple of nut cases on TV 1 a week or so ago, going on about disarming all RNZAF aircraft because their only use was peaceful , SAR and cyclone relief, and that Orions are not bombers and shouldn't have bombs. These people seemed to think they had the right answers. isc

Were they government nutcases? Or just nutcases we don't need to be concerned about?

If someone in this country has to bear arms, I'd rather it was the Armed Services!

It will be well after the election, when the next Government has had a look at all the options. I just looked that up 21 November 2020 😤 If not before. Some Labour-leaning political pundit wrote an article this week urging Jacinda to call a snap election because she's riding so high in the media's view at the moment, claiming it would be a landslide...

The great unwashed and ignorant, need to understand that there are several ways of killing submarines in shallow waters (i.e. the Hauraki Gulf) and one of those is from old fashioned iron bombs, with short delay fuzing, that will explode; whereas a standard depth charge or mk44 torpedo would not operate in shallow depths. 5 Squadron has been developing this technique for a long time

Well not to be disrespectful of the situation, but it would not be the 1st time a politician has exploited a situation for political gain, she getting good advice from a media perspective. Maybe I’ve become too cynical being exposed to Australian politics over the last few years.

She'd win a landslide if she called an Australian snap election. I am not so sure about here.

I remember years ago, the army wanted 155 mm guns, but that got squashed, some politician thought the guns looked too aggressive, I think they got some 105 Howitzers instead. isc
