Where on earth do you get the "Chinese heavy lifter on wet lease" from? That article has no mention of it.

If we went for a Chinese replacement for the C-130, would the US pull the plug on buying the P-8. I wouldn't blame them, they would want the T-6 Texans back too, and any US gear, or at least stop any servicing and parts. isc I think they will go C-130.

Good Morning new to this forum. Nice to be here a name I recognise which I see often here is Paul Harrison. He was an LAC at Wigram when I joined. Anyway I notice that STUFF is reporting a 1.3 billion dollar purchase for defence assets in the Budget on Thursday. Question is this the announcement for the A400 purchase to replace the Hercules

My guess, as the numbers are only for 2019/20, is the big increase in defense capex is mainly starting to pay for the P-8s and associated infrastructure.

The P-8 announcement in July doesn't help much

I was very much inclined to agree that the increased budget figures related mainly to the P8 introduction but if the capex spend for the total project is spread through to 2026 then perhaps there is something else quite lumpy in the next year that the government will commit to. With four years to go before the aircraft arrive there will be a large amount of work required to start at Ohakea very soon so who knows. If nothing else it is a small step in the right direction.

If I were a betting man, my money would be on the C-130J.

Assuming that article is accurate, I can't believe the A400 has been excluded and yet two basically orphan aircraft have been included. Unbelievable.

If I were a betting man, my money would be on the C-130J. If its not going to tender, ie. sole source procurement, C-130 all the way!. Not sure where the idea of the C-130 being an orphan comes from, must be a catholic family.

I know he's not government but still, no one mentioning the A400 is disappointing.

Fair enough, though National,as the opposition are basically just Labour in drag(lipstick anyone?)....so anything they say at present is just wind.
