Some photos from John Saunders: Wish I could be over there to see them in the flesh but great shots and all those involved should be congratulated on their efforts. Quite stunning to see Gloria back together. The pictures of Mr Smith in her are really quite something.

Gloria is now on display in the AHC at Omaka. Work will now begin on NZ3043 - first job is to rebuild the wings.

Wow she looks "Glorious" yep sorry, just love how she is authentic with the wear and tear, be nice to see a few flying warbirds in a more weathered operational looking state.
Well done to all fantastic, trips across the ditch planned!

As I said on Facebook, bravo to Team Curtiss for an incredible job. What a tremendous tribute to her service crews - air and ground - and to John Smith. I don't know why but I really love this photo.

Have quite a collection of warbird t-shirts have two say the Wright Stuff t shirt people have done a great job and you are supporting the project, thanks Andy. Buy one here\/. wearwrightstuff.secure-decoration.com/shopHow is it supporting the project? Maybe I have read it wrong, taken from the link below they state they are supporting the project!? This is the only reason I gave the t-shirts a plug. rnzaf.proboards.com/thread/29148/nose-shirts-support-project-organisation?page=1&scrollTo=295940"Each t-shirt purchased directly supports a restoration or organisation. Several in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK and the USA are already on board and waiting patiently for me to get designs organised. You'll be pleased to know the first three shirts support the preservation of the Smith P-40N 'Gloria Lyons' in Omaka. All profit from the sale of this series go to the project (that's A$5 per t-shirt). Another shirt design, the most advanced of the new ideas I have, will support the NZAFM (they've been really helpful)."

To date, there have been no donations. Perhaps , sales are slow?

Thanks heaps, planecrazy, for purchasing a shirt and the kind words. They are nice shirts, eh? I was seriously impressed when I placed my test order before making things public.
Curtiss, I spoke to John Saunders and he informed me the Gloria Lyons project was separate from the Omaka museum and the Mossie project. That's where I was originally going to send the donations. I have been flat out with work so haven't checked the website for a while until now. There's only been five sales to date (part of me wonders why I bother, but press on!). I suspect I haven't reached any threshold yet for the commission payment to come in. Sales have been slow, partly due to my being busy elsewhere and not being able to push the shirts. Still, they're out there and I'll get there!
Heaps of ideas for future designs to support various projects. It's just a matter of having the time to get them done as usual.
Cheers
Andy

Andy, Thought there would be a sound explanation - hard work selling shirts.

Brilliant. I saw these on Facebook on my phone last night but on a PC monitor they look fantastic! Thank you John for taking the time to scan these and Dave for uploading them.

Now that the John Smith Collection has left his Mapua shed, the WONZ Forum rule against posting photos of the collection (John's wishes for security reasons) no longer applies. That means any photos taken at John Smith's place over the decades are now of huge historical interest, and if you would like to share yours, please feel free to post them here.

Would love to see some additional direct port side views of NZ3043 to obtain exact location of the camouflage demarcation lines. Interesting to note that the fuselage camouflage was applied as the aircraft went down the line as it appears under the line of what would be covered by the wing/fuselage fairing unlike today's rebuilds where they all seem to be painted following assembly. Also some additional finer detail pics of the port side would be great. Seems that the stencilled maintenance instructions are of a font that may be particular to Curtiss and different to the normal stencil font you see coming from stencil machines. Same applies to aircraft produced by Republic; they too have a different font. Appears to be opainted and not a decal as is the case with other factory applied maintenance instructions a' la Mustang.
