When I first looked at this I realised that my own father was referenced in the article as "second pilot". Jack Curtis & Ron Austin as well as many of the crew mentioned on the last page all spent time in PNG with other families like mine. I just spoke to him about this story - he said these planes were 'not very good to fly'. Serendipity;
"the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way".
