Hi Errol. I believe the target drone is a Northrop Radioplane BTT RP-71. It was used by the RAN in the 1950's.

I'm a very lucky boy to have flown in the two seater MiG (actually Polish built) from Canberra to Nowra after an Australian Warbirds annual dinner...........went like a rocket and the climb was sensational.

Great photos and a great museum, best thing about visiting is it is often very quiet, maybe during school holidays it gets a bit busier? Also very handy to Sydney you can visit two fantastic collections in one day, yeah bit of a road trip but good roads and do-able.
HARS to Albatross is around 1 hours drive on a good highway. In fact if you wanted to make it a two day trip, you could do HARS, Albatross then inland to Canberra and the Australian War Memorial.
Three great museum/collections with some awesome gems all well worth a visit.

I'd trained to Wollongong the day before, went to HARS that afternoon, then picked up a rental car and went for a morning (because timezones) drive up through Macquarie Pass and Canbewerra before visiting the Museum. I'd considered combining HARS and Albatross with Warbirds Downunder a couple of years earlier, but spent an extra day at Temora instead.

James, Peter and I did Camden, HARS and Nowra in the same day. A bloody good day, that! Camden was by special invitation, by the way. It is not open to the public these days.

I was nearly going to add Temora, you could do HARS and Albatross then the War Memorial. Its around two and half hours drive from Canberra to Temora you could even add in the Wagga Heritage Centre which is not far as well. Yeah a lot of driving but the highways are great, have driven out to the Temora showcase airshows on a number of occasions for the day from Sydney, early start late back but excellent highway. Would be great to time such a trip with one of the Temora showcase airshows, every time I've attended it was not very crowded and really well done. Hopefully such things return in the near future? Sorry to hijack your thread Errol.

Dave, ref the MiG.......I also did all of the drawings for the markings and applied them and all the stencils. Did a number of them including our short lived MiG21UM in the Indian Air Force scheme. Now that has a story...

It sounds like you need to start a new thread with that story Ando.
