During WWII, were Allied night fighters and night bombers armed with tracer rounds to aid the gunnery?
Or were tracers deliberately not used so as to not give away the aircraft's position? I guess the muzzle flashes would have dove that to an extent anyway?

I would have thought tracer would have destroyed the pilots night vision so would have been rather dangerous.

You need tracer to see where your shooting and to adjust your aim.It was only one shell in 5 or so was tracer and the other guy would be blazing back with tracer to.

Yes. They would have used night tracer(dim trace), a different colour(green) to day trace(red), noting that the tracer doesn't light up until about 100yds out.
