"The NH90 NFH is currently the most modern helicopter in its class, it is a true multirole aircraft able to perform a wide spectrum of missions such as Search and Rescue, support, utility, anti piracy, antiship and anti submarine missions anytime anywhere. It has been designed to operate from a ship or a land base." - when spares and maintenance permit I am guessing
I can hear the PR wheels grinding from here...stay on message, we need to reflect our Pollies sanguine statements, protect your arse at all costs....
As to washing down...crap...they dont wash down the interiors. Have a look at any Local Council requirements for buildings being built within 5km of the coast or the product info from steel manufacturers about what they require for buildings in that zone. In my experience, not many buildings fly over and in the salt spray zone but the advice on their construction and treatment is clear and very precise.
The things were parentless dogs and we were sold a pup by the politicians seeking re-election. Why do we have 'experts' in the field advising the government of what is needed when they are ignored in the name of political expediency and butt saving. True, the government is needed to perhaps look at the costings and find the cash but to ask a politician for technical expertise in such matters or to put a program like major military procurement in their hands is like asking a Tik Tok bimbo for a dissertation on nuclear physics
richard1098... yes, Super Seasprite, NH90 and Tigre were approved in a fairly short timeframe and just look how they all turned out. Uncertainty is always there but that's why 'experts' are consulted. Someone once told me that it takes two artists to complete a masterpiece.....one to do the painting and the other to tell him/her when is its finished ! Same applies to experts. Checks and balances need to be applied but I'd rather trust the deliberations of someone in the industry/military than a short term pollie who could be a bee keeper after his first term.
The only short time, expert inspired procurement I am aware of that killed the brief were our C.17s.... and they are flying their butts off and totally fit for purpose. Our ideas and slight, (I suppose), lack of urgency and also thought in another program that was guided by experts is having worldwide recognition and adoption. That is the Wedgetail. Who would have thought that little old us would come up with an open architecture, highly adaptable and extremely capable AWACS machine that the world is now adopting....and not a politician in sight.
Shall get off the white horse now..........
Dont get me started
