So bloody good that it is flying again. A huge well done to Jim and all the team who've worked so hard to achieve it.

Yep, I saw it at both Hamilton Airport and at Ardmore during that tour. It was awesome.

In 1990 it was escorted in to Wigram following the Tasman crossing by four RNZAF Airtrainers that represented the four Bristol Fighters that escorted the real one to Wigram in 1928. Now we do not have the Airtrainers or Wigram, but we could probably field four Bristol Fighters though!

The question occurs to me, when the Southern Cross replica flew across the Tasman Sea in 1990, and spent numerous weeks touring all round New Zealand to places such as Wigram, Woodbourne, Hamilton and Ardmore, was there a camera crew onboard? Did they produce an official video of the tour? It was a significant feat to do a double crossing of the Tasman and to attend all those places, perhaps as much so as the original Southern Cross's three NZ visits. It would definitely have been worthy of capturing for a documentary.

Not sure Dave. I shall make further and better enquiries with HARS to ascertain if something was done

Thanks Ando. Back then, it would have been the type of story that one of the Australian TV networks would have been all over, or even TVNZ or TV3 here. But I do not recall ever seeing anything.

Very cool! Thanks for that Marty. It brings back happy memories of attending that show with my Dad.

I remember seeing it, in the Feildair hangar in Palmerston North. But it must have been in the mid eightys? It was in New Zealand during 1990.

Reference to a 2-bladed wooden prop in post by daqqy152 may in fact be the micarta prop which was used on one of the later flights to NZ by the original aircraft.

The text on the prop reads
COCKATOODOCK ........A D 8 4 P 6 3
WRIGHT ............... ......5
Sorry the photo I have is not very good

I can guess that the data in above post can be interpreted as: Manufacturer, then possibly serial number of prop, Diameter and Pitch, and specific engine application.
