during the ohakea airshow i got talking to a camera man on the other side of the crowd line. he told me about a new aviation TV series going to air sometime around July on sky TV and freeview. he was planning 36 episode's documenting airshows around the world, with a good focus on NZ and oz aviation. he has recently been at sport avex and had done the skytrain operation with the rnzaf. he had already got about 27 hours of footage from ohakea over the three days including cameras on board the vampire, Herc etc. it seems about time we got a decently document series dedicated to aircraft, and i for one cant wait to see this released www.flightpathtv.com/

I know both the Flightpath TV guys personally. The cameraman you spoke with would have been Malcolm. They saw a gap in the market; there are cooking, lifestyle, sport, history etc programmes and magazine shows, but nothing dedicated to aviation. A good idea, and great to see the programme is developing well.

Yep both Fletch and Malcom are great guys... I just hope they got my good side and I don't end up on the cutting room floor! Does anyone know if winning an Oscar gets me a free beer at the aeroclub bar?

By the way, were you onboard the DC-3 following the Hercules on Thursday?

Anybody know what happened to these guys or the show?
I saw one episode on the Documentary Channel and then it sort of seemed to disappear, if any more episodes were screened I must have missed them and didn't see any promos either.
Looked to have potential.

One of the guys from the crew was filming at Armistice in Cambridge. He told my mate who knows him that they cannot sell their series in NZ, and it will likely not be seen. They are trying to sell it now to a US market, and not having much success.
The similar series that I was developing with same mate (without being aware of Flightpath TV at all) is now shelved indefinately, sadly. In the meantime the networks continue to churn out the mindless drivel about fat people, talentless competitions and cooking shows...

The current trend of mindless tripe that passes for television programming basically comes down to one factor - it's a cheap way putting moving pictures and sound on air to fill the gaps between the adverts. I tend to watch a lot less telly than I used to and when I do, it's normally from channel 70 upwards on Sky (although I'm an avid follower of Time Team on Living). I know I'm biased towards flying - or obsessed if you take my wife's interpretation of it - but something along the lines of Flightpath TV or your project Dave would be a welcome change. Here endeth my rant.

Me too, plus The Simpsons, River Cottage and The Late Show. That's about it unless any specific good documentary comes on.

Hi everyone,
They say that good things come to those who wait, well for us it has taken three years but I’m pleased to announce that the first series of FlightPathTV is complete in full HD and has just made it’s first international sale at the MIP TV market in Cannes, France. The first buyer is Discovery Channel Asia and our distributor is in discussion with numerous other networks from around the world. He is expecting to sign further deals including some other potentially large names.
We are in the process of clarifying if the Discovery Asia deal includes NZ. We are of course keen to get the programme screened here, so as soon as we know, we’ll let you know.
Thanks to everyone who has supported and assisted us over the last three years, including but definitely not limited to: Pacific Wings Magazine, Documentary Channel, Air NZ, RNZAF, Afterglow Films, MD Helicopters, RAAF, USAF, Australian Aviation and all the pilots, aircrew, organisers and friends we have met and filmed at airshows, events, exercises and exhibitions around the world. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Thanks again and I’ll be in touch when we have more details.
Cheers and happy flying!
