Nice to see UA back in NZ skies, albeit for a short time. Yes a short time indeed as FJK was back on the job today. Still FJL goes in for maintenance in the new year so maybe UA will be back for a short stint again. Hawaiian here for maintenance. Regular Korean visitor taxis for take off. Singapore taxis for take off. FJK touching down for the first time since coming back from maintenance. Taxing for take off. Cathay 747 B-HUG was on the job today. A nice day for spotting or doing whatever you liked today. Nice suntan to go with it. Colin

I saw that DC8 whilst taxiing past in the back of a packed 737 yesterday, and it sure made me look two or three times. What a grand old machine. It was registered A6-HLJ (or very similar) from memory for anyone who wants to know. I wish I had had the opportunity to take a photo of it myself but as always the way when I see something like this, my camera was well and truly packed away in the overhead baggage bin. Thanks for sharing it Colin!

A6-HLC is the reg. Interesting history which can be read on Mike's blog site. www.mrcaviation.blogspot.com/I will try and catch departure if it is in daylight hours? Alex might get some good close ups before it leaves? Cheers

Maybe you could ask a kind 'Smurf' to drive you out for a close up shot?

Regret to advise the DC8 rumbled out of Auckland at 0517 this morning heading for Sydney. Thanks Mike. Now I know I should read this forum first thing in mornings to save me doing the round trip! Still I got the Qantas 747 taking off. Cheers

That is a great shot considering the weather Colin. Thanks for enduring the rain to bring it to us.

Indeed I've been quite enjoying the cooler weather later, a welcome relief from that horrible humidity last week. Great photo Colin, especially given the conditions.

Now here is a nice surprise? ;D Popped over for a short visit. For those that don't know this is Virgin Australia International B773 which goes in to service soon between Aus and USA. Cheers

Wow, what a find Colin. That's quite a cool scheme, albeit a bit QANTAS-y at the tail.

I like the faded out Aussie flag effect along the side of the fuselage, helps to liven up what would otherwise be a bit of a dull white overall scheme.

Some more from AKL, some maybe not so rare. "Emirates 412 Super" A6-EDA about to touch down. Air Pacific using the wet leased UA 747 on Saturdays again for a while. Cheers

Nice pics as always Colin. It appears they are only using the lower deck on the UA 747, this seems slightly unusal - must've been a light load.
