Thanks Gavin, great pic. Yeah the Titan Mustangs are quite fascinating. They're powered by a Rotax 912 4-stroke flat-4. They're different again from the Thunder Mustang. Hmmm,...makes me think about building one.....

The shot of the Camel has a rather deaf "me" attached to the right wing.
The Camel has to be one of the loudest aircraft I have ever been near excluding jet aircraft.
I dont know how Gene can not be completely deaf after flying that aircraft for the length of time he has, no earplugs or hearing protection other than a leather cap.

Great shots.
I didn't know there was a second Titan Mustang now. They look the part except their propellors. They must be really great fun for their owners.
Did they fly together?

They did indeed. Highly maneuverable, sound strange due to the small propeller, very high pitched.
I do want one though.....

I guess sound-supression of the rotaries wasn't a big issue back in 1918 !!! ;D ;D

Yes I heard a Titan Mustang at Wanaka - it sounded like a model plane. Nowhere near as nice sounding as the Thunder Mustang. Cheaper to run though I'd guess.
Are their wings the same scale as the fuselage or smaller? I wonder if they could go fast enough for a formation flypast of all five Mustang 'variants in NZ? (P-51D, F-51D, Thunder Mustang, Titan Mustang and Midget Mustang) :-)

The Rotax isnt the only powerplant for the Titan, I understand most of the NZ ones have gone or are going to Suzuki V6s. These have the advantage that by splitting the exhaust pipes, you can get 12 functioning stacks on the side of the cowling. They also are a bit gruntier and are at least the proper shape for the cowl! the props still look a little silly though, but this isnt noticeable once they are up and flying. Chris, you gotta stop thinking about homebuilts mate - and start building

And the DAK looked brilliant dropping Kiwi Blue on Saturday. Just like the old days? I will add some more pics of WoW later. Colin

Thanks for posting the wonderful images, Chris and Colin. Chris, those two of the Corsair really show off the size of that big beautiful girl. I always knew they were a huge aircraft, but when I first stood next to one it really drove it home how big they really were. No wonder all those Corsair drivers in the Pacific had a fair sweat on by the time they'd climbed into the cockpit! Those Titan Mustangs look great in the polished metal finish too.

If my wife would let me have an aeroplane I would have one of those Mustangs. They looked great. I agree Dave that the prop is to small but maybe a bigger three bladed prop like earlier P51s might be the answer

Brilliant photos chaps.
Wow, three Staggerwings in matching colours, fantastic! I thought one of the NZ based ones was yellow for some reason. What a great team they make. Staggering, you might say...
I really like the ones of the Dragon Rapides Colin. I guess it's a homecoming for ZK-AKY, it used to be beased there didn't it? Was AKU at the event too? I guess three DH89's together is too much to ask.
I'm not nearly as convinced by the Titan Mustangs than I am by the Thunder Mustang. It just looks right from every angle, despite the different scales between the wing and fuselage. The Titans look like their tail and canopy are too big, and the engine and prop too small. Still very nice. How many are currently in NZ? I'd love to see one or two put into the TAF scheme.

Sure, the Titan Mustangs may not look quite “scale” compared to a P-51, but in the flesh (polished metal) they look simply stunning. And for the fraction of the price of a real one or even Simon’s beasty, would you have one of those or a Cessna 152 ??!! Confirmed fan, don't care what ya say

Cessna 152? What's that?
Yes, I agree, the Titans look great, not entirely right, but damn fine all the same. And I like their polished look. Plus as I said earlier they must be great fun. I wouldn't say no to one. I'll be the first to congratulate you Chris when your's accomplishes its first flight too.

Ha ha, thought you'd say that, Dave ;D ;D ;D
My first project will be a little less ambitious than that. Still very keen on the Nieuport idea, and once I've seen that new film coming out soon "Flyboys"...it'll probably advance rather more quicker !!!

Is "Flyboys" actually going to be released here? It seems to have bombed overseas.
