Nice pics there, i read that article (in NZ Aviation News?). I've flown a couple of older-generation 172's (both straight and swept tail) and they fly nicely, much lighter and more responsive than 'modern' Cessna 172's. However, those old Continental engines lack a bit of power and the generator isn't the most efficient when night flying with everything on! 'Modern' 172's also have a wider landing gear track, which makes them more stable. Nice photos, its great to see some historic GA aircraft getting some recognition.

Great pics !!! What year is the Cessna ? I've always been a fan of the oldest Cessnas, particularily the 120/140's.

The aircraft came to New Zealand straight out of the factory in 1956. It still wears its original white paint but its trim has been changed a couple of times. It will be getting a new paint job done in the next 12 months or so, so I will posts some more pics then

Cheers for the info, very interesting. Funny how Cessna went from the round rear-fin to square rear-fin and then swept rear-fin yet the rest of the aircraft looked virtually identical through the years. Guess it just proves what a good design the 150/152/172 was/is
