Is it my imagination or does this Tigermoth have more exhaust pipes than normal? Nice aeroplane though, and again, beautiful shots!

In my efforts to find out more about the exhaust system on that Tigermoth, I stumbled upon a website The DH-82a in Australian Service au.geocities.com/ozflea42/tiger_index.html From what I can gather, Australian Tigermoths from serial A17-400 onwards have multiple exhaust pipes. Here are two examples from that site: I note that the imported ones have the single exhaust pipe, so maybe this was an Australian modification? BTW, on the registration/serial number list it says A17-712 was sold to North QLD Aero Cub CAIRNS 07/54. I shall continue my search for the answer...

Here is a shot of a UK based Tigermoth that was in NZ during 2003 and it has another exhaust system so like you say it could be an Australian mod. The aircraft in the air to air photos was destined to serve with the Rhodesian Air Force but ended up in the RAAF

Yeah that shot of the UK Tigermoth is interesting. In my brief research effort regarding the exhaust system, there was mention on the moth site of modifications, one of which was an extended pipe to take exhaust fumes away from the rear cockpit. A similar concept was used on some Harvards too.

The long exhaust makes the operation much quieter, from inside & out. Here's the long & the short of it - at Te Kuiti in 2004.. and then heading off South a little later on.. wishing I was back in the S Hemisphere again!

Wonderful shots, all of them. I really like the last two posted by pacairdh, the British Tigers are in very classic colour schemes.
So did the owners bring them out by ship just to fly in NZ? What's the story? Are you one of the owners pacairdh?
