It's much sharper that the 70-300 DO lens which looks pretty soft in the online tests!

Thanks for that, and I think I will get one of those . Took a few test shots while in Nelson on a job today and the 70-300 DO has really impressed me. I dont think the quality is quite as good as my 100-400 but I had a great run with it and quite a few shots were taken towards the sun and still came out ok. Only thing I need to get use to is the small size as you kind of get used to lugging those bit lenses around as you know so this needs some adjustment. I can see my 100-400 now being used less as a result.

Lens turned up today. Havent used it yet as the weather is not the greatest here lately. Have a shoot to do where I think it will come in handy and will be nice to have a bit more wide angle available.

A shot of the Loch Ard Gorge on the Great Ocean Road, Victoria. Taken with Canon 17-40 f4 USM L, 17mm on Canon 40D thus = to 27.2 mm focal length with full frame sensor. Circular polarising filter. An excellent lens for relatively wide angle use. Neil Black’s Jabiru flown by Rob Black. Image taken from Rob’s Auster flown by Martin Robson over Port Phillip Bay near Mornington, Victoria. Canon 40D with 28-205 mm f4 LIS lens. This is an ideal lens for air to air photography. The zoom range works out just right for me in the several sorties I have flown with Martin. The aircraft do not need to be excessively close to obtain full-frame shots if desired.

That photo of the Loch is stunningly clear and colourful. The second shot is great too. Welcome back to the forum Peter
