Here are a couple of photos taken as these aircraft were on there way to Wanaka. The third shot was taken from the ramp of the C-130 and will give you some idea as to what some of us got up to and I am sure Craig will see something there that will make him happy. Special thanks to the RNZAF and Ian Brodie for organizing that flight. It was a life time highlight for me as well as others on board. Also flew with the Thunder Mustang (Thanks Simon) and also with Ryan on a rather unique formation flight so it was a good forum catch up with some of the guys and photos will follow in due course. Havent started sorting photos yet as there are heaps of them but more air 2 airs will follow soon. Great airshow by the way. Highlights for me WW1 as usual, Jurgis snap rolling an I-16, P40 firing its guns, and meeting up with good friends just to name a few.

Havent needed to use the 70-300 DO yet as the pilots flown with lately fly nice and close, has been really good for ground to air stuff though. Thanks for that. Here is the Thunder, and what a great evening it was, really smooth with nice tight formation. Thanks again Simon, good fun

Super shots Gavin. Especially the Thunder Mustang, that's a cracker!
Jurgis was flying a Rata? That must have been an amazing sight.

Was great to see Jurgis fly the I-16. Due to looking into the sun for most of the show and getting some air 2 air photos on Thursday meant we had opportunity to just enjoy the show for a change which was great and the Polikarpov display by John Lanham and Jurgis was fantastic with lots of speed and noise. I was told that Jurgis flew both Polikarpov types following the Wanaka show in 2006 and surprised a few on the ground when he threw in some snap roles. Another highlight for me was meeting Jurgis after the air 2 air photos. The aircraft are great to watch but meeting ones heroes is a great thing.

It must be amazing seeing an I-16 flick-rolling! I hope that'll be on the DVD.
I met Jurgis by chance at Wanaka in 2006. I went up to a table in the beer tent afterwards to catch up wth AFC's chief engineer Ray Mulqueen, whom I knew from my days in the RNZAF when we painted the Avenger, and Ray had been a very generous host to me during my subsequent trip to Wanaka back then in 1993. I was chatting with him at this table, fully focussed on what he was talking about, and then he said, "Oh, have you met Jurgis?" Sitting right next to him was Jurgis, the aerobatic king, with his family. He was a jolly nice bloke too. I'm glad he seems to be a regular at the shows now, he's a real star.
I wonder, is Ray still involved with warbird aviation down there now? He was very unsure about his future when we had that chat, due to the dissolving of the AFC. I'm sure he must be, he's a real asset to the Warbird community.

That last one is really super Gav. The CT/4E's look like they're playing and very happy to be doing so.

Grat shots. It looks a little cramped in that Mustang cockpit from that angle.
