To thank the ATC units who helped at the SportAvex Tauranga Airshow in February, the SAA organised a flying day at Matamata for the cadets. Without exception Huge grins were the order of the day, and all the cadets were treated to flights in Homebuilt or Sport Aircraft. I was there to help as required and take some photos for the Sport Flying Magazine etc. As can be seen conditions were superb, most of the morning was dead calm. By lunchtime when Andrew brought the Citabria down for me to continue my tailwheel training, we had a bit of a cross wind which added some additional challenge to wheeler landings! Sorry no pics of the Citabria as I was focussing attention elsewhere! Some of the aircraft waiting to receive their crews: A Europa, Two Zenairs, an Emauraude and the new Furio. John Lissington helps a Cadet strap in: The Furio has completed test flying and was extremely popular. Giovanni reports the first batch of kits (all presold) are just coming out of the molds now. Ben Wilkinson and Alfred Hirtzel brought their Corby Starlets - although they are not particularly useful for carrying Cadets! After a good chat they departed to Pauanui for lunch - Tough life! A study of Yellow Single Seat Taildraggers..... (The AgTruck is temporaily based on the field whilst doing some familiaristion in the area) Many thanks to the ATC for their help at the Airshow, I hope everyone enjoyed their flying day.
