Question for those in Wellington or those involved with Qantas.
The last few days the trans tasman routes from Wellington have been operated by Qantas (VH) aircraft not the usual Jetconnect (ZK) aircraft.
737-838 VH-VXL has operated QF117 SYD-WLG 12/05, QF118/47 WLG-SYD-WLG 13/05
737-476 VH-TJR operated QF37 MEL-WLG 13/05
Does anyone know why the Australian aircraft have done these routes are Jetconnect majorly short at the moment? Can we expect these routes to be operated by VH aircraft for a while or was this just a short term fill in?
Does anyone in Wellington (Joe etc) have photos of these birds operating into/out of WLG?
Thanks for everyones help.

I was aware that there would be QF 737-800's operating out of Wellington but I don't know if they are for Jet Connect. The -400 I didn't know of. The -300's are looking rather tatty now days, so I wouldn't be surprised if these other 737's were the new hand-me-downs from Big Daddy. I'll see if I can snap the aforesaid aircraft today for you. (The -800 was at the gate last night).

Interesting thought Joe, a quick search of the archives provides this from the announcement of the introduction of cityflyer on NZ routes and the re-introduction of WLG-CHC services. (09/10/07) Prehaps this is an indication that the change talked about is occuring, add a VH registered 800 or 400 to trans tasman freeing up a ZK registered bird to operate the new WLG-CHC-WLG rotations.

You may well be right. I sat around for three hours yesterday but saw no movement, it must be under maintenance at the ramp or something. Curiously it was using an air bridge, that must be expensive?

Todays Jetconnect schedule is in complete shambles, Cancels and delays everywhere. Apparently theyre having tech issues though with aircraft looking like that its sadly no surprise.

I notice there seemed to still be a few issues with the Jetconnect timtable yesterday although the fog in Auckland certainly didn't help!
VH-VXL has just crossed over here on its way into WLG as QF47 SYD-WLG - very strong Aussie accent on the radio so definately being operated by Qantas mainline pilots.

One Qantas mainline Boeing 737-800 aircraft is operating in lieu of Jetconnect Boeing 737-400 ZK-JTP whilst it is having a planned maintenance visit in Melbourne. ZK-JTP is due to operate QF37 Melbourne-Wellington on Wed 21May while the 737-800 will operate QF38 Wellington-Melbourne and finish.
Trust this solves the 'mystery'. ;D
