Trotted out to the aero club today only to discover a very full car park and equally full apron. If I'd read the club noticeboard correctly I would have remembered there was an aerobatic competition being held - also the reason Pitts WIZ had been practising for the last 3 days. Anyhow, a few piccies from the day while I waited for my flight in TZG. Sorry no flying shots, out of range of my feeble zoom lens.... Parking at a premium. TZG in amongst everything, luckily things were winding down by the time I took her up. NSAC CFI Tim Maynard in Slingsby TZX. Familiar? TZH finding a gap in the traffic. Cheers, Stu.

Was that the Brian Langley Memorial competition? Looks like a very good turnout. I think that was the one Good turnout, good weather (very calm) and some excellent performances from all involved. I'm not sure who won, or what the results were, as I was in the planning room and then flying for the last part of the competition. Cheers, Stu.

Stu, how did you rtest go? Complete success thanks, even nailed the forced landing first go which was the thing I was dreading most. Guess that means that a quarter of a century after my first tentative foray into actually flying, I've finally got my PPL. ;D Cheers, Stu.

Nice work Stu. Who will you take on your first flight as a PPL? My first passenger was my Mum on a night flight. She absolutely loved it, much to my surprise.

Thanks everybody, I really appreciate the comments ;D Caution: Brief life history follows It's been a dream of mine to fly ever since I got the flying bug in the early seventies. My father used to occasionally take my sister and me from Hamilton to Raglan in a 172 and after a couple of flights I was well and truly hooked. Stories of WW2 Spitfire pilot Uncle Lloyd also increased the excitement. In 1983 I started taking lessons with the Waikato Aero Club but only managed a few hours before realising it was costing too much to continue. Despite not flying, the passion (or "obsession" to quote my wife) remained unabated and finally, 18 months ago, I was able to restart my flying again and the rest - as they say - is history. I have to confess that there were several times I thought I'd never get there, especially when I was basically immobile for two months with an injured back. I'd like to take my wife for a flight as my first passenger but she's terrified of flying so it may be my daughter. I'm not sure where things will go from here, I'm still getting used to the idea that I can take a plane up and just fly for the sheer enjoyment of it rather than having to learn or practice something. One of the things our CFI suggested I try was aerobatics and after he taught me how to do a wingover on the way back to the airfield on Saturday - and the 4 that I managed to do - I'm kind of leaning in that direction. Just comes back to the money issue now. Cheers, Stu.
