I recently scanned this photo of two RNZAF P-40's and an American F4U-1 birdcage Corsair sitting on the wing of an RNZAF Ventura (or is it a Dakota?). It comes from Alex Brisbane's collection. It's nice to see a photo of the RNZAF and US Navy working together like this. Also it's interesting to note the large white circular marking on the P-40. Sadly the old print was not in the best condition so I can't get it much better than this to see what the marking was. A closer look

Don't think it's a Dak wing... looking at the flaps (Dak has split flaps)

Concur. Also seems to be vortex generators out near the wing tip, the Dak was smooth. Finally, fuel tanks in a Dak were inboard of the engines - note the fuel cap outboard of the engine.

Definately a Ventura, note the slots in the wing leading edge and the engine nacelle fairing is too big for a Hudson or Loadstar
Great pic Dave, thanks for posting, I really like it
Cheers

Cheers guys, I thought it was a Ventura. Just seeing if you're all awake.
I wonder what the mission was.
