There's an interesting new photo on Malcolm Laird's Ventura website of some RNZAF Corsairs in the Pacific that look like they might have yellow cowls. www.thescale.info/news/publish/Corsair-NZ5420.shtmlWas the OFMC's Corsair in RNZAF scheme withyellow cowl based on this?

Personally I dont think the cowls are yellow - the top looks a little darker and I suspect the cowls are from a heavily faded 3 tone scheme aircraft. Athough diificult to judge on black and white prints, The roundel outline and code numbers look darker than the cowl.
The OFMC cowl colours were purely part of the Breightling Fighters sponsorship. All the aircraft under this branding acquired yellow spinners or cowls. Corporate branding.

I wondered too if they were replacement cowls in a more faded scheme too but it might be odd that two side by side might have the same issue to necessitate a cowl change.
I was aware of the corporate yellow on the Breitling aircraft but wondered if they'd actually researched and found a scheme that was genuine.

If you look at the wing leading edge it actually looks a similar colour to the cowl. But the rest of the darker paint looks reasonably ok. Odd.

Having blown the picture up, I reckon the cowls are bare metal. The paint has come off in a sheet on the wing and is peeling badly behind the cowl and down the fuselage. I wonder if the repaint wasn't prepared properly and the paint has not bonded, and coral dust has simply stripped it back real quick at the front?
