On Sunday we flew five times to capture all of the aircraft from the Marlborough Aero Club as our 80th anniversary is coming up soon. We made the call to start early and meet at 8.00am. I live out of town a bit and it was 4 degrees when I left and got steadily lower. We took off on the first flight at 8.20 and the temperature gauge at the bottom tells the story of how things were at 1000 ft. As we did a formation take off to conserve time and maximize our opportunities, I never took another photo of the gauge but 10 minutes into it, it was getting pretty cool with the door taken off the 172. As the photos are for the aerclubs use for the 80th anniversary celebrations I cant post many of the air 2 airs yet but will when I can. I can tell you that the Tomahawk is a great looking subject air 2 air and we got some good photos of six different aircraft with one flight to go.

The second and third shot are really nice Gavin. When is the anniversary, and will there be a fly in and a shindig?

Hi Dave, The actual date for the 80th is July 4 and a formal ball is being held on July 12 but I am away with work a lot lately so will miss it but if I can get some photos I will post them here. Will post some of the air 2 airs on or around the 12th as they are being projected onto a big screen at the function and none of the members have seen them yet so the guys at the aero club thought is would be a nice surprise as its the first time for a long while that all of the aircraft have been seen air 2 air. I know the lads will have a great night on the 12th.

Will the Bristol do a special run or the event?

Will the Bristol do a special run or the event? I'm sure Al could be persuaded to do something ... although the Ball is being held at the Convention centre in town, not at Omaka - so it would have to be a seperate event and not part of the official celebrations. Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as Gavin and can't attend the Ball, so hopefully Al is there to report back for us.

Yeah, I'm hoping to run the Bristol on the 4th but need to wriggle out of my roster a wee bit to make it happen. I was asked at the MAC AGM the other night if i could make it happen. The senior members have tea and coffee on a Friday afternoon in the flight office. On the 4th, tea and coffee has been offered at the clubhouse bar instead. Knowing those guys like I do, tea and coffee will be the last thing on their minds. If I can't be there, I know of one or two old schoolers who could run the Bristol in my absence.
I gotta let her go one day...........

I did a lot of my PPL at this time of year in 1993 from Omaka. I loved flying first thing in the morning and on touch and goes, I got a kick out of seeing where my tyre tracks suddenly ended in the frost. It was a clear record of the point where you go from being bogged down by gravity to something else. That would make a great photo.

Al, do you have any other planned/proposed engine runs coming up? I would like to add them to the forum calendar.

PAM needs her bottom cleaned. Great photos Gavin, particularly that first one.
