Interesting. ATS meant Advanced Training Squadron of a Service Flying Training School.
There were three SFTS's, No. 1 SFTS at Wigram, No. 2 SFTS at Woodbourne and No. 3 SFTS at Ohakea. I don't know which SFTS that NZ1301 served at but my suspiscions are this is Woodbourne? NZ1301 doesn't seem to have even suffered any damage to speak of.
Great photos Shorty.
As an aside you may be aware of the famous photo of an Oxford that taxied into the Wigram tower when the brakes failed? I've met the pilot of that aircraft. Luckily as it was mechanical error he never got into trouble.

The trainee pilot was Bill Goer. This is photographed from Warren Russell's first book but this photo has appeared in a few other publications too. Very little damage, if any, done when the brakes failed and it coasted in to a slight bump. That book has a number of worse Oxford whoopses in it too.

As that building under the tower was the Headquarters building back then I wonder if the windows he nosed up to belonged to the Station Commander's office. It would give the office wallah a fright to hear the bump and look out and see a plane in your face.

Cool shot.
Interesting to see Warren Russell's caption states the cowl is red, but your shot clearly shows it's not, and is yellow.
I would also have thought that with the red cowls that aircraft would belong to CFS and not No. 1 FTS as he mentions. (Being March 1944 it would have been No. 1 SFTS at any rate, wouldn't it? He must have been having a bad day when he wrote that one)
