There's a (little) bit of discussion on the North Shore Aero Club forum regarding the RNZAC Pilot Proficiency Scheme. www.flyingnz.co.nz/pdfs/PilotProficiency.pdfIt kind of caught my interest so I thought I'd throw the topic out here for discussion on a far more active forum. Cheers, Stu.

The questions initially raised were ... What level are you? Are you interested? Is it just another set of certificates/badges? What is/could the scheme be used for? Would you wear you badge? In public?Apparently it has been around for a while but, as with at least one other person, the first I'd heard about it was when the brochure arrived in the post. Personally I'm of two minds, the newbie ppl in me says "oh goodie, I qualify for a blue badge already" while the jaded old cynic says "look at that newbie getting all excited over his badge". I guess the motive is good in that encouraging pilot proficiency can't be a bad thing. Just my 17 cents worth. Cheers, Stu

It is a recognition of a pilot's club experience and achievements which is good for encouragement and experience of new flying aspects. However the options for gaining the next levels reminded me of scout badges, ticking boxes for certain qualifications/experience levels. Maybe the system needs to be more defined, and more aero club oriented.

A bit like the badges from my Air Scout days!
It's also meant to show some sort of aerial expertise when hiring an aircraft from somewhere else apart from home base. I have held a 'Silver Certificate' for yonks, but no-one has ever been interested in it for that particular purpose. Looking at the specified tasks, I need just one more for my Gold. Must do something about that I suppose.
