Couple of old photos in my collection from May 1967 that maybe of interest to some here. The USS McKean a Gearing class destroyer of the US Navy was here on leave from the Vietnam war and had a couple of interesting pilotless helicopters on board. They are Gyrodyne QH-50 DASH (Drone Anti-Submarine Helicopter). www.gyrodynehelicopters.com/Interesting how technology has changed and improved over the years. The USS Mckean was decommisioned in 1981 for parts and then given to Turkey in 1982. it was Harponed in 1987 and lies at the bottom of Antalya Bay off the Mediterranean coast. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_McKean_(DD-784)Colin

Great photos, Colin.
Gee, she had her stern bashed around a fair bit. The Skipper needs some work on his reversing skills? ;D

Perhaps it had been parked in the dock next to HMS Troutbridge at some point?

Great photos, Colin. Gee, she had her stern bashed around a fair bit. The Skipper needs some work on his reversing skills? ;D 22 years old at that time and it had just come from active service off Vietnam? I do recall touring the ship and it was very spic and span on board with very helpful commentary by the crew. Cheers
