I was thinking, now that the forum has lots and lots of members, maybe we could arrange some sort of informal non-airshow get-together where members can meet up and mingle, and chat avaition, etc.
I propose the idea of a Waikato gathering to start with, other regions could follow. But we're nice and central here in Cambridge, just an hour and a half from Auckland by car, an hour from Tauranga...
And we have Rukuhia (Hamilton International Airport) just a few minutes from us. There are memebrs based here in Cambridge and nearby Hamilton and Tauranga too. Maybe those who'll travel further can car pool. Or maybe if enough Aucklanders are keen Andrew could bring you all down in the DC-3?
Perhaps we could make it a pre-Christmas event, such as a meal and a few beers at a local pub. And then maybe we could watch some rare aviation videos or something like that. Also a visit to Rukuhia is a possibility.
Anyway, it's just an idea. Please post here if you'd be keen - it's open to all members including those who don't post often. And any further ideas and suggestions are welcome.
Over to you

Not a bad idea Dave, just have to find a date that doesnt clash with everyones Christmas dos. I'd host a visit to my workshop to see the Adventurer project. Would be a good thing as we've just passed the 30,000 post mark as well - time for a little celebration I reckon.

Sounds a good idea Dave although I think I am running out of week ends. Still I will be a starter if the date is free.
A tour of Bruce's workshop would be interesting as many of us have followed progress on here. Maybe a second visit / get together when he makes first flight? Something we can all celebrate as a group?

Actually as there will likely be many clashes, does mid-January sound better? That way we might get guaranteed good weather too. Over to you guys and girls

I'm currently living in Cambridge so count me in! We (the family) have only been in the country for just over a year so our social network is still small so I'm free most weekends.

It'll be great to see you come up here Chris!
So suggestions are really welcome. What do people want to do?
We can have a barbecue no worries. Or if you want something more formal we could have a meal at a local pub.
A visit to Bruce's plane is likely. We may be able to arrange access to a few aviation places at Rukuhia.
And possible a viewing of some aviation videos.
Anyone got more ideas? Is anyone thinking of flying in? Maybe we could have an impromtu air display. ;D

Hi Dave,
Just seen this and I'll be there!. I could take the DC3 if you got enough people... could do it for say $150 return, however we would need 30 people... maybe put a message on the front of the site to fill her up and turn it into a decent event....
What location are you thinking of... we could have a chat to Andrew at the Museum, he's always keen.
Cheers
Andrew
