www.faaaa.asn.au/news/reunions/sixty_years.htm"HMAS Albatross has decided to run only ONE official air day, on Sunday, 26th October, and has designated Saturday 25th as a practice air day (note: the general public will not have access on the Saturday). This has been compounded by the Federal Government initiative to cut spending by $17 billion over 10 years on the armed services and instructions came from the RAAF who have the purse strings."

So much for the Navy being the senior service. Gee FN, I thought one of your mates was running the show now. What gives

Wayne Swan obviously doesn't want "working families" TM to enjoy themselves at a two day air display! I think the other problem is that because the ADF Air Show is being held on 4th and 5th October up at Amberley the faceless number crunchers probably feel the general public are being spoilt too much with two air shows in one month. Of course, I bet they aren't cutting back spending on functions, travel, perks, etc for all Federal politicians!

Probably Saturday was always going to be a practice day but somehow in earlier schedule it was open to the public. It would be 'unbearable' to have the public there (crowds etc.) for two days. As has been discussed on other threads the traffic will be nightmarish. Go Early - Leave Late.

Here is a link on the page at the URL above: www.navy.gov.au/Fleet_Air_Arm_Museum_Diamond_Jubilee_Air_Show_2008But I take your point the link is under this banner: " Airshows Past AirshowsDiamond Jubilee Air Show 2008" Apparently the entire Navy site has become corrupted by some inept work recently. The Sea Power Centre people are cranky about what has happened to their good pages now filled with some rubbish so I expect a similar thing has happened here (to the Museum pages). Weird eh.

vgp, Yep this is the main Sea Power Centre complaint that most of their links are bad now. I reckon it is going to take a lot of work to fix if there are no backups that can be used. I noticed stuff like incorrect ship (wrong badge for carrier Melbourne) badges here (on the 24th August) so it will take some time to fix I reckon: www.navy.gov.au/w/index.php/HMAS_Melbourne_%28II%29I complained then because... well... you know the story..... ;D

The cover of the brochure give-away on the day. No mention of admission price? Can't recall if there was one? Perhaps there was a car parking fee?

Mirages were a bit late for Air Day. Photo taken in March 1971, VF-805 aircraft most likely, 888 & 889.

Maybe admission was ONE dollar or something (vague recollection)? Here is the Shoalhaven River Mouth (false) in flood it looks like. In the early 1970s (1969-73) Nowra was a very wet location. The airfield would flood regularly which was fixed over time.
