Is there a database (similar to nz-serials.adf-serials.com/) for NZ civil aircraft? It would be much quicker to download one than having to produce my own.

It would be great if we could make a forum register of aircraft not on the civil register. Then we could all add to it. Some aircraft are hard to find information on when just searching the internet.

I think it's called Peter Lewis, isn't it? ;D ;D It would be much quicker to download one than having to produce my own. Have a crack mate. There are 9644 individual aircraft histories as at 31st July (including airframes with multiple registrations) and some have up to 24 different owners, so you should be able to whip one up in . . .oh . . .around 25 years. As a comparison, NZ military is a bit of a doddle with 3003 aircraft!

It doesn't have old ex-registered aircraft like the UK one seems to. The CAA does make available the amendments to the register on the website, but only back as far as 1990 - see the bottom of this page - www.caa.govt.nz/Script/Air_Reg_Query.asp - note that the tab and zip file are only the last month, not the complete thing, to see anything older than a month you have to select a date range and hit the button.

If we could actually create a datebase similar to say the Internet Movie Data Base but for NZ aircraft, aircraft companies, airports, pilots and owners, etc, that would be great.
When i say pilots, like my earlier query today where I asked about an RNZAF pilot called Orchard in 1939-40 who dinged a Fairey Gordon into some Baffins. If I could have looked him up on a database and found his career like i can an actor, that would be a great resource.
Could it be done??

Well I've been without power for a couple of days after the river washed away a power pole that feeds my house. Did you know you can't run a computer on candle power?
It looks like I'll have to do a revision on MS Access and starting with the links given make my own database. Back to AHSNZ journal Vol 1 No 1!

The Ed Coates photo collection is a mighty effort . . but . . . some of the factual detail is incomplete or erroneous. I emailed him some small amount of corrections/additional info a while ago, but go no response and no corrections have been made to the site. I would double-check before accepting what he posts as gospel.
(I'm not being critical, just realistic).

Dave Wise actually does have a full (complete with historical frames) NZ Civil register on his site www.dave.wise.btinternet.co.uk/DWNZindex.htm#index it should provide some help to you Shorty it looks good - has histroy of each aircraft including crash locations dates for those that crashed.

Thanks for the link to Dave Wises site. Thats a great start I may need to rehash it a bit as I would like to add to it and I can't do that as it is but it's a damned fine place to begin with.

Saved it as a word document so I can now amend it, all I have to do now is work out to convert it to a Excel database.

That database looks to be a most impressive effort. Pity some of the links (eg ZK-AIA to AQZ and the Fiji one) don't currently work, but no doubt that will be rectified soon.

Glad someone else had trouble opening some of those pages and it wasn't just me. I found a total of 8 in the main body and the Fiji one that wouldn't work for me.
