Do spotters mark the power poles and gate posts like the swaggers used to? No, not like the swaggers, just like the dogs do!

Sending a white aeroplane to the Antarctic seems a bit silly.
Why is it designated as an L-100? Is that a civilian Hercules designation? Or perhaps licence-built or something? it just looks like a C-130 variant to me. Very interesting all the same. I have wondered which other nations apart from NZ and the USA use Harewood as a base to fly to the ice from.

L100 is the Lockheed designation for the Civilian stretched C130. a limited production run was completed, Safair being the main customer. the aircraft were completed as Civilian aircraft (Civil spec engines etc) howver a number of second hand ex military machines were subsequently converted to L100 status (including some standard fuse models)

Has anyone taken any shots of the new control tower being constructed at CHC? Graham Weatherby sent me these shots: Many thanks Graham and look forward to seeing more as it progresses. Cheers

The light beacon at Harewood is/was painted up as a beer can, so will the new tower be painted up as a Tip Top Trumpet? ;D It'll be sad to see the old tower disappear. Thanks for posting the shots, Colin, and thanks also to Graham for taking them.

Looks like a cracked egg. The entire aircraft will eventually be painted in that yellow colour, as also I believe, the Metroliners and F27's. ECL is Express Couriers Ltd, a joint venture between DHL and NZ Post. You may have seen their Express Courier vans. The aircraft will eventually wear similar schemes to the road fleet.
