The Tiger Moth Club Fly In is at Gisborne that same weekend so both events co-incide. Colin tells me the Dakota and Catalina are attending. Sounds like a great weekend with all those classics at a great place like Gisborne.

Has anyone seen the photograph of one of Fieldair's DC-3s on the runway at Gisborne Airport with a train just starting to cross the runway in front of it? I think the photo may be on the Gisborne Aviation Preservation Society's website.
I was the driver of that train. It was one of several posed shots taken from a helicopter by a professional photographer from Gisborne, Stephen Jones, and was used in an Eastland calendar. It would have been taken sometime around 1979 or 1980 if my memory is correct. I've got a large framed copy of that photograph hanging on my lounge wall.
I've also got a large framed photograph of a BAC Strikemaster posing on the runway at Gisborne with a locomotive. That photo was taken by the RNZAF Central Photographic Unit from Ohakea in 1992. No.14 Squadron had a camp in Gisborne (commanded by Squadron Leader Scott Glendinning) and they requested a locomotive to do a posed shot on the runway. I got the job of taking a locomotive out to Gisborne airport and stopping it on the runway, then the Strikemaster taxied up alongside it and a series of images were taken by a photographer standing on the runway.

I don't recall seeing those shots? I wonder if it is possible to get permission and have them posted here? They would be nice to see.
I hope we can get some DAK and PBY posed photos with a locomotive on the day?
Cheers
